JUST organized a workshop for religious leaders on Anti Human Trafficking and POCSO Act at Bishop House, Agartala on 2nd October 2018. The resource person for the 1st session was Ms. Leeza, Manager for Safe Migration and Anti Human Trafficking from Caritas India. She talked about the meaning, causes, effects and various measures to control it. The measures she suggested were Public education at School Level; create awareness at school level, have peer groups/learning and sharing among peer groups; Orient teachers on human trafficking; etc. She ended her talk saying: we can be agents of change too, Restoring faith….ensuring hope. The 2nd session was taken by Fr. James Morias and made a presentation on POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act 2012), making the participants aware of the kinds of offences and the punishment such as: Substance offences; Sexual Harassment; and using child for pornographic purposes. He also presented the procedure of investigation, trail etc; Reporting of Offences; Procedure for Media: Recording of statement of child.
